'Most Followed Leader': PM Modi Becomes First World Leader To Cross 100 Million Followers On Instagram (x)
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday has achieved a historic digital milestone by becoming the first world leader and politician to cross 100 million followers on Instagram, which shows his unparalleled presence on social media platforms globally.
PM Modi joined the social media platform, Instagram in 2014.
In the last 12 years, the Indian Prime Minister's social media account has grown steadily to become one of the most followed and highly engaged political profiles worldwide.
PM Modi's Instagram account, which was created the same year he led the National Democratic Alliance to power with 336 seats, regularly features snapshots from official engagements, international visits, public outreach programmes, cultural events and personal reflections, helping him connect with a broad and diverse audience.
PM Modi, who is known for being social media savvy, often shares photos from the events he participates in.
PM Modi has surpassed several global leaders, including the United States President Donald Trump, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Brazilian President Lula, and the Turkish President Erdogan.
Donald Trump stands second with 43.2 million followers on Instagram, followed by the Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto with 15 million, Lula with 14.4 million, Erdoan with 11.6 million, and the Argentine President Javier Milei with 6.4 million.

The combined follower count of these major world leaders is lower than PM Modi's individual total, which highlights the scale of his digital reach and influence.
On micro-blogging site X, PM Modi remains immensely popular as well, with close to 106 million followers.
Within India also the gap between PM Modi and other political leaders on Instagram is also wide. In the second place, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has 16.1 million followers, while Congress MP and leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has around 12.6 million.
